At the WHY@Breakfast presentation “From Conflict to Communion” on October 29th, 2016, members from both the Catholic churches and the Lutheran churches in Kitchener-Waterloo came together to learn about the Lutheran-Catholic dialogues in the last fifty years and the Reformation from the perspective of the Catholic Church. It was also an opportunity for fellowship and to start a conversation locally on what it means for us to be followers of Christ.
We were happy that several participants at the breakfast talk decided to continue that conversation and asked their churches, in collaboration with WHY@Breakfast, to offer the study program Together In Christ* to all who wish to have an ecumenical experience, to journey in faith with others, and to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. Consequences of the Reformation caused division, discrimination and violence. At the quincentennial commemoration of the Reformation, it was certainly time for us to think about what St. Paul meant when he wrote to the Ephesians about “the unity of the Spirit”, “one Lord, one faith, one baptism.” The theologians and the ecclesiastical hierarchies have worked on the many advancements towards reconciliation and unity in the past decades. In May, 2017, we all had the opportunity to participate in an important dialogue that led us to see how the gifts of the baptized may enrich one another and how we may share our faith in the same Christ!
Let us be people of reconciliation striving toward Christian unity!
